Integrating Technology Into Classrooms for Children and Adult Learners

My name is Katie, and I love technology. For years, I worked in a child care centre, and now, I volunteer in an adult literacy classroom. In both of thee situations, I have been impressed by the use of technology. I have seen it integrated in a lot of useful and surprising ways. If you want to use technology in any classroom, my blog will help you generate ideas and learn how to use them effectively. I have three kids, but they are all grown, leaving me with ample time to write. Please, get comfortable and explore these posts. Thanks for finding my blog!

Simple ways to improve your home security

Marcia Wagner

Burglaries are many homeowners' worst nightmares, and they are events that can happen to almost anyone. In order to protect yourself against burglars and other intruders, you need to spend some time thinking about how to best protect your home. There are many things you can do to achieve this.

Security systems

The easiest way to protect your house against intruders is to get a security system installed. Security systems come in many different variations, and to find the one that suits you best, you should talk to your local security system salesman. You need to evaluate whether you'd like to pay a monthly fee to have your security system monitored, where the security company ring you up as soon as the alarm goes off, or if you wish to have it unmonitored, where the police show up when the alarm goes off.

Hiding equipment

If you already have a security system in place, you should take a walk around your house and inspect the system. If your cameras are very visible, you might want to try to cover them up by putting plants or other objects in front of them. Just make sure you still have full visibility through the lens of the camera. You should also inspect if you have any visible cables that lead to the alarms or cameras. In that case, you should hide them. Burglars tend to look for exposed cables leading to security systems in order to cut them off and make the security system harmless to them.

Hiding the key

Another thing you need to think about is where you place the key to your house. Simply placing it under a fake rock or under the doormat won't protect it, and experienced burglars could find it quite easily. Instead, you might want to find a small box or container that you can place the key into, then bury it down in your garden. Don't mark the place where it is, but make sure all family members are aware of the spot.

Motion activated lights

Another simple thing you can do to protect your home is to install motion activated lights. They won't cost anything after the initial installation cost, and they can deter burglars simply by giving them an illusion that they're being watched. This is especially good if you spend a lot of time away from home, as the lights will provide an image that someone is home and that they are controlling the lights. Make sure that you inform your neighbours that you plan on having these types of lights installed, as they can startle people passing by without any malicious intent.
